Hose Management

Our Hose Management course is targeted at Flexible Hose users in the Offshore and Petrochemical industries, to specifically cover the recommendations in the UKOOA Hose Management Guidelines recommendations, for personnel competency standards. This incorporates both a theoretical and practical assessment.

The course is recommended for personnel who are actively involved on a regular basis with flexible hose specification, installation, maintenance and possibly assembly, in an offshore or onshore environment associated with Petrochemical/Exploration & Production industry.

The course content conforms to Industry Guidelines and Specific Operators Maintenance, Inspection and Management Standards/Guidelines.

Course Content:

To present a training course to encompass the safety aspects associated with flexible hose specification, selection, installation and maintenance, with emphasis on:

  • General selection of Flexible Hose products
  • Appreciation of SAE/API specification and design criteria for hose
  • Types of applications - hydraulic, general service, specialist application
  • Types and method of termination, thread types and identification, selection of material for terminations
  • The installation of Flexible Hose relating to static or flexible applications, bend radii, routing, clamping and support
  • Periodic inspection, testing and re-certification, faults and failure causes, prevention and investigation

 

Assessment of Course:

Candidates will be assessed by answering a theory questionnaire based on the course content and by participating in a practical workshop session on hose selection and assembly. Delegates will need to complete a practical workshop assessment document developed as an NVQ/SVQ style unit of competency for the Flexible Hose Training Programme. This Assessment conforms to the requirements contained in Addendum 1 of the UKOOA/IP/HSE Flexible Hose Management Guideline, Issue 1 January 2003.

Delegate Requirements:

A room with tables and chairs for up to ten candidates will be required, equipped with a projector (PC Compatible) and screen, with a white board or flipchart easel. Workshop facilities will be required for practical elements of the course, including a workbench with two vices on and a working area of approximately 20 square metres.
